City of Irving Non-Emergency Police Concern - Illegal Dumping
What should residents do if they have large trash or tires to dispose of?
Tires are not collected through regular curbside pickup. However, Irving residents can take up to four (4) passenger car tires per year to the Hunter Ferrell Landfill free of charge. Additional tires are accepted for a fee of $5.00 per tire. Please note that tractor-trailer or 18-wheeler tires are not accepted. The Hunter Ferrell Landfill is located at 110 E. Hunter Ferrell Rd. What are the penalties for illegal dumping?
Illegal dumping is a serious offense. Depending on the circumstances, individuals caught illegally dumping can face charges ranging from a Class C misdemeanor to a State Jail Felony. These charges come with significant fines and, in some cases, potential jail time.
While catching someone in the act of illegal dumping is ideal, it’s not the only way we can pursue charges. If we’re able to gather enough evidence to identify the individual responsible, we can still move forward with a case. Anyone with video or information related to illegal dumping is encouraged to contact the Irving Police Department through our non-emergency line at 972-273-1010.
Who is responsible for cleanup, especially in alleyways?
Responsibility depends on ownership of the alley:
- If the alley is City-owned, our Maintenance Department for Urban Infrastructure (MDU) handles the cleanup. However, the recent increase in illegal dumping has strained their capacity.
- If the alley is privately owned, the property owner(s) are responsible for removal, as enforced by our Code Enforcement division.
How can residents report illegal dumping?
We encourage all residents to report illegal dumping by calling our non-emergency line at 972-273-1010. Your reports help us respond quickly and investigate violations.
